theatrum tectum : thee-AH-trum TEHK-tum
(Latin; pl. theatra tecta: covered theatre building). Roman theatre architecture included both open-air venues and enclosed performance spaces designed for year-round use and protection from weather. The indoor theatre building is the theatrum tectum. These structures featured roofed auditoriums with reduced seating capacity compared to their outdoor counterparts, typically accommodating more intimate performances such as musical recitals, poetry readings, and smaller dramatic works.
