The performances in ancient Greek theatre required various movable objects, costumes, and mechanical devices to support the dramatic action. These theatrical apparatuses are the skeuê. The term encompasses a wide range of items, including props, masks, costumes, mechanical devices like the ekkyklema (wheeled platform) and mechane (crane), as well as painted scenery panels (pinakes).
